Welcome to The Kent Estuary Mission Community

Kent Estuary Mission Community

In Cumbria, the Anglican, Methodist, URC, and Salvation Army churches have entered an ecumenical, Covenanted Partnership – with Roman Catholic, Baptist, Society of Friends and Church of Scotland
denominations as Companions. It is this Partnership that shares the vision of God for All – that . . .
everyone who lives in, or visits the County should have the opportunity to know more of the love of God and His purpose for their lives. This Covenanted Partnership is not just for the church leaders. It is something of
which all our churches, and therefore all of us, are part.

On Wednesday October 15th there was
an Open Meeting for the churches in the Mission Community to discuss the way forward. If you click HERE you’ll be able to read details of the outcome. Below you can read about a new Prayer Group.

Following the Open Meeting on 15th October, volunteers have come forward to form the Working Group that will develop proposals for the vision, pattern of ministry and governance. Its first meeting is being arranged.

It is now intended to form another small group to pray together for the Working Group and the wider congregations, as we all seek to discern a way forward that might best support our congregational life and enable the worship, witness and intentional mission of the churches in the Kent Estuary in the coming years.

If you would like to be part of the Prayer Group, please contact revhannahwallace@gmail.com in the first instance.

NEXT STEPS

Following the Open Meeting on 15th October, a Working Group of volunteers has started to consider the vision, pattern of ministry, and governance arrangements within the Mission Community.

Its task is to make outline proposals for a direction of travel. These will be considered by church councils after a further Open Meeting on 28th January.

At the Working Group’s first meeting on 12th November, it mapped out a work programme for 6 further meetings before reporting to the Open Meeting. It also began to identify key elements that might be included in a draft, 5-year vision for the local churches.

This vision statement will be firmed up at the next meeting on 20th November, and the group will also have an initial discussion about possible patterns of ministry to support the delivery of it.

The Group will welcome both your prayers for its work and any comments, questions or concerns. These can be emailed to the Working Group via peter@heversham.com
